Our must-see Yeppoon attractions
While most of us are happy just to throw on our swimmers and watch the dreamy sunsets, there’s a world of fun and beauty right on our doorstep you may not even know about. We’ll cover some well-known local favourites, and maybe inspire you to try something new.
1. Sail to Great Keppel Island
This one’s a given. Great Keppel Island is a true natural beauty that’s only a 30-minute ferry ride across our azure coastal waters. Adventure awaits, with private coves to explore, coral reefs to snorkel, bush tracks to hike, dolphins to spot, and pristine sand to laze about on at one of the 17 beaches. For a more relaxed and romantic option, take in a slow sunset cruise with wine and cheese. An absolute must-do Yeppoon attraction.
2. Soak in the sun beachside
Relaxing beachside is one of the things that makes the entire team here at Keppel Dental smile. With plenty of beaches to choose from, we love taking a quick dip at Kemp Beach or Cooee Bay, followed by coffee. It’s the perfect start to any morning.
3. Forest bathe at Byfield National Park, Conservation Park and State Forest
The Japanese really are onto something with their love of forest bathing, mainly due to its positive benefits for physical and mental wellbeing. The Byfield National Park, Conservation Park and State Forest have a bit of everything to nourish you, with delicious coastal scenes, sand dunes, rainforest-edged creeks, pine plantations and ancient cycads.
4. Float around Yeppoon Lagoon
Yeppoon’s Lagoon has been mesmerising locals and visitors since 2018. With its swim-up infinity edge that overlooks the beautiful Keppel Islands, it’s designed for everyone. The patrolled lagoon has a safe shallow area for children, space for people who want to swim laps, and plenty of free space to kick back and relax.
5. Unleash the kids at Keppel Kraken
If you have children, set them free at the Keppel Kraken on the Yeppoon Foreshore. It’s a kid’s water play park like no other, with water cannons, jets, and a unique umbrella bucket to entertain the children while you relax in the shaded barbeque areas.
6. Pack a picnic
Take the Bluff Point Scenic Walk around the headland and enjoy the 360-degree panoramic views. Stop at Turtle Lookout to spot some turtles before cracking open the picnic basket and rewarding yourself for the physical effort. (Although it’s hardly an effort with views like these.)
7. Indulge at the Fig Tree Creek Markets
Celebrate our local artisans at the monthly Fig Tree Creek Markets. You’ll find unique handmade, locally designed, home-baked and home-grown wares to peruse, admire and buy while enjoying live entertainment. If you’re into art (and coffee), then you’ll also enjoy a walking tour of the emerging street art that’s starting to feature high on the list of must-see Yeppoon attractions.
8. Learn some local history at Wreck Point Scenic Lookout
This scenic lookout is in Cooee Bay, a short drive from Yeppoon’s town centre. It’s a must see if you’re after mesmerising panoramic views of the Capricorn Coast. Not only is it beautiful here, there’s also a cool history lesson attached to the Selina Shipwreck. To this day, no-one’s really sure how she washed up on our coastline. The Lookout area now includes a nature trail and viewing platform, and an interpretive panel telling the story of the Selina.
9. Tune in to the Singing Ship
Another must-see attraction is the Singing Ship at Emu Park. This intriguing monument is a tribute to Captain James Cook, the first European to chart Keppel Bay. Perfectly perched above the ocean to catch the breeze, you’ll want to visit on a windy day when the Singing Ship’s pipes catch the wind and sing a sweet song.
10. Drop a line
While not specifically a must-see Yeppoon attraction (more of a must-do), we’d be remiss not to include a fishing expedition in our list. I’m an avid fisherman, and I can tell you we’re lucky to have some awesome fishing spots in the area. If you have a boat, head out to Bluff Rock (Iron Pot) for trolling and bait fishing. (You may be lucky to catch a mackerel.) No boat? Then try the Double Head and Rosslyn Bay Marina rock walls for a land-based option.
